.:we love december:.

and all that comes with it.

Finally, we have weather that actually requires a jacket!

There's exclamations filling the car anytime we go out because of all the fun decorations and lights around town.

The tree is up...we've caved and gone fake! it's a sad day in some ways but it fits nicely in the little corner we have available.

There's fun things filling up the calendar...piano recitals, Christmas programs, evenings to visit Christmas Tree Lane, dinners with friends, Christmas caroling...

It even snowed this morning! yes for real! Here in our valley town that doesn't get snow, we sat and watched the big white snowflakes flutter to the ground and of course they promptly disappeared into a puddle of water.

The smell of fresh bread.

The anticipation of cut-out cookie making...though I think it will be an activity we do mostly during Evan's naptime.

The thrill they get from dropping change into the little red bucket and saying "Merry Christmas" to the bell ringer.

Thinking about Jesus and the Hope he brought to earth years ago...thinking about how he wants us to share Him and bring  His hope to our little corner of the the world today!

.:everyday memories:.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how we make memories every day as a family. Whether we are intentional or not memories are being made. Mental pictures that shape their lives and make up the time that they'll look back on as their childhood.

One of my favorite almost everyday things is how they get so excited to know it is close to being time for Daddy to be home from work.

Sometimes they head outside to wait...on the porch, in the grass, on the driveway...sometimes they go out to soon and end up back inside because they are just sure that he won't be showing up anytime soon.

When he does show us there are smiles all around. Evan starts yelling "DRIVE" and usually scores a place on Daddy's lap driving up and back the driveway and maybe even in the parking lot next door if it's a good night.

Sometimes I think that the boys will out grow this thing of heading out to see Dad. And while they are jumping on his lap or giving all the hugs and kisses they used to, they still like to tell him about the latest cool thing in their life. It's usually sports talk these days! Whether it's the football game they played in the backyard or the one their looking forward to on the weekend...

And sometimes Daddy even has a treat in his pocket and then the smiles get even bigger than they were before.

So I know it's one of my favorite times of day and I have to think that it will be one of their good "everyday memories" when they get older...

~a band of indians~

Usually about once a week our cousins join us for the day and add to the already chaotic pace we call life. We love to have them!!! This week after everyone had their schoolwork done we braved the paint, only because it was trusty CRAYOLA washable, and painted indian faces, thanksgiving banners, tables, leaves, hands...

~refreshing~

Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."

"refresh my heart in the Lord" phm 1:20

How refreshing it is to have clear, CALM, sunny days...we've battled the first virus of the year! and it lost!
I didn't exactly plan on being gone on a weekend when Nathan would be taking care of 4 sick kids. Then again, I didn't plan on coming home with the same sickness that was rampant in our household...It's amazing how 1 week can change my perspective.
Last Monday we were sleeping, coughing, feeding the few kids that even felt like eating, and sleeping some more. Today we are, after the midnight run to the airport, tackling school, laundry, piano, housework...
The Lord has healed and refreshed. I'm thankful it's Monday and that I have the energy to do the things God has given me to do for the day!

So after being sick for the week we were so glad to see Friday come...the sun was bright, the sky clear, and not a fever to be found! We finally ventured outside, did some yardwork at Dad's and then came home to our yardwork.

I was helping the boys start on our yard, talking to Luke's before they headed out, and was just generally distracted. The little guy slipped below the radar and found himself a fun little activity!

He was quite mischievous and thought he'd even go after his biggest brother...

He kept himself occupied quite nicely til the boys were done with their work and Daddy pulled in for the night!

He gave me a nice little smile before turning the hose my direction...quick move.disaster.averted.

Cold...wet...shivering...ready for nice warm clothes!

And actually I'm okay with his obsession with water as long as he stays out of toilets! Which, of course, he does! There is no way that this could possible be the same handsome boy whom I found stuck in the ladies restroom at church. And for sure when I didn't find him there was not evidence to his water slinging from head to toe. There was not puddles around the toilets or water splashed on the stall doors. His mom takes way better care of him than that and knows where he is at all times!

Happy Monday!
